When you download files with Chrome, it saves those files to a specific default download location. You can change this default download location to organize your downloads. It’s also possible to set up Chrome to ask you for a download location or change the filename each time you download a file.
Change default download location in Chrome
You can choose a location on your computer where downloads should be saved by default
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click Three dots -> and then Settings
- At the bottom left, click Advanced and then Downloads.
- Adjust your download settings:
To change the default download location, click Change and select where you’d like your files to be saved.

Choose a specific location or rename file for each download
If you’d instead choose a specific location or rename the file for each download, check the box next to “Ask where to save each file before downloading.”
